Inputs in Focus
Our inputs business delivered a record-breaking performance, overcoming challenges to source fertilizer raw materials from origins not subject to sanctions, and launching an exclusive partnership with Koppert Biological Systems to distribute biological crop protection products, in line with LDC’s commitment to sustainable business.
Strong Oilseeds Crush Performance
Despite external challenges from severe drought, the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Covid-related impacts at destination and domestic political uncertainty, Grains & Oilseeds delivered very strong results in the Region, supported by a vast origination footprint to ensure cost-effective logistics and timely delivery for customers, and bolstered by all three soy crushing plants running at full capacity throughout the year – with Alto Araguaia (Mato Grosso State) and Ponta Grossa (Paraná State) processing record volumes. In our Paraguaçu Paulista plant (São Paulo state), LDC reached all time record volumes of peanuts processing.
Safety First
In a year that saw new records for both volumes of product handled and asset utilization, accident frequency and gravity rates in the Region were the lowest ever recorded, reflecting the company’s global ‘commitment to zero’ accidents in matters of safety. Continued investment in safety and health enhancements included critical safety devices in extraction plants and boilers, and de-dusting systems in hoppers and tunnels.

“We continue to advance the traceability of our Grains & Oilseeds supply chains in Brazil, reaching not only direct suppliers to farm level, but also engaging with indirect suppliers such as cooperatives and resellers. In 2022, we enlarged our group of certified producers, increased the number of chain of custody certified sites and significantly expanded volumes of soy and corn sold under international sustainability certification standards.”
More North Latin America Highlights
In order to secure service to farmers and competitiveness on logistics cost to better serve our clients, LDC Invested in expanded storage capacity at our warehouses in Paranaguá port (Paraná State), Rondonópolis (Mato Grosso State) and Varginha (Minas Gerais State), supporting the growth of our fertilizers, cotton and coffee businesses respectively.
Achieved 100% soy traceability to farm level for direct suppliers in high priority Cerrado municipalities, as identified and audited under WBCSD Soft Commodities Forum methodology.
As part of LDC’s plans to expand not from concentrate (NFC) juices commercialization in Europe, North America and Asia, we began construction of additional storage tanks in Matão, São Paulo State, where the volume of fruit processed increased by 20% year on year.
Despite smaller crop yields due to drought, the Cotton Platform delivered on all export commitments in time, while increasing domestic sales and market share, shipping a record 700 containers to China on a single vessel from the port of Santos, São Paulo State.
