Record Performance

Many business lines posted record results in the Region for 2022, especially Grains & Oilseeds, thanks to strong performance in palm, profitable vegetable oils merchandizing, positive refining margins at our Indonesian facilities, and resilience in meals and wheat thanks to strong demand and our extensive origination network. Freight also contributed significantly to regional performance, adjusting our book and repositioning our fleet to capture new business opportunities in a challenging context, while expanding dry bulk volumes by 5%.

Customer Centricity in Action

As part of our strategic account management approach, we forged closer business relationships with key customers through shared market intelligence, logistics reports and other insights, supported by strong internal cross-platform and product line dialogue.

Growth in Grains

With the completion of LDC’s acquisition of Emerald Grain Pty. Ltd., we advanced in our strategic plans to further strengthen our leadership position in core Grains & Oilseeds merchandizing activities, by significantly expanding the Platform’s origination capacity and network in Australia.

Our expertise, market insight and diversified operational network enabled LDC to keep supply chains moving in a challenging context to meet customer and consumer needs and support farmers in the Region, while successfully expanding origination and sales volumes and pursuing developments for LDC’s growth plans in the region.

More Regional Highlights

Underpinned by a record origination season in Vietnam and continued growth in India, the Coffee Platform achieved its highest ever sales for the region.

Cotton also delivered impressive results across the Region – particularly in Australia thanks to high utilization rates at our gins in the country, while the joint venture between LDC and Namoi Cotton Marketing Alliance helped seize significant merchandizing opportunities across multiple destinations.

Rice turned in a strong financial performance, with steady volumes shipped compared to 2021, by carefully managing freight exposure and challenging market conditions.

Sugar performed well by building a solid book to destination, with good margins from arbitrage opportunities, bolstered by our strong presence in India.

As part of our strategy to move further downstream, we completed a successful distribution partnership pilot with one of Indonesia’s fastest growing retail food & beverage chains to bring a ready-to-drink orange juice product to the local market.
